What happens on a foraging walk with Diego?

Read below a review by the lovely Walkiria and Peter who came to a foraging workshop last month.
I think there is value in posting these impressions, so to offer an idea of what happens at our events, from a participant's point of view.
This and many more reviews on my Business Google profile present a picture of an empowering, fun, accessible experience, for which I’d like to thank all my friends, colleagues, ecologists, catering industry professionals, nature lovers, indigenous elders, and more, who generously provided the feedback I’ve received over the last 20 years plus events I’ve been running like this. Thank you for all the comments from those who’ve participated in my workshops, I’ve slowly crafted valuable experiences, with the aim of connecting people to ecologies, while offering clear, easy-to-follow instructions on how to safely harvest wild edibles from their surroundings.

Thank you Walkyria and Peter for your kind words.

This morning we did a different type of adventure. We visited the Blue Mountains Community Garden in Katoomba. There, we met Diego Bonetto, a unique character, that although has so much knowledge about plants, is a very humble person with a massive respect and appreciation for nature.

He took us for a 200-metre walk, packed with so much information about the plants we saw in the area that took us nearly 3 hours to complete. Diego walked us through the magical world of weeds, sharing as much knowledge as he could fit in that short time.

We only had enough time to delve into a handful of weed types, but Diego is very good at explaining the general knowledge of the weed world (types, families, ways of recognising, and how to use common sense when picking your greens). His way of teaching is very easy to follow, he throws in some humour and explains with enough detail for everyone to understand.

Diego is very happy to share his knowledge with the world, he is on a mission to revert society back into the beauty of respecting the land, looking after it, and helping humans to make the most out of all the nutrients a healthy soil can give us.

During Covid time, Diego published his book “Eat Weeds”, a comprehensive book where a small part of his brain is compiled, with a great amount of detail and imagery, how to recognise weeds, their properties and some ways of preparing them. If you’re interested in wild edibles, get yourself a copy!

It was a very special way of spending our Sunday morning.

Thank you, Diego :)
