Forage and taste coastal seasonal wild ingredients with weed convert, stylist and foodie Marnee Fox.

As the feast half of Forage to Feast Australia, Marnee will take you on a journey through the landscape observing and getting to know wild edible seaweeds and plants. You’ll also get to taste them utilised in a mini mobile degustation.

Post workshop, you’ll get all seaweed and plant details, recipes, sustainable styling tips and menu in a gorgeous ebook delivered straight to your inbox.

What better dinner party conversation than the pickled seaweeds on your nibble platter, or the delicious sea lettuce rice paper rolls with ingredients foraged from your local beach.

You can expect wild seaside treats including neptunes necklace, sea lettuce, golden kelp, dead mans finger, beach mustard, rambling dock and mallow, to name a few.

Dress for the weather with a hat and sunscreen or your fave wet weather gear. Wear comfy walking shoes with whatever makes you feel like your best self, be it shorts, a cocktail dress or your take on a suburban seaside foragers attire.

Please note, that this is not a harvesting outing, but a carefully designed workshop that will introduce you to wild edibles of the Illawarra coastline, giving clear identification clues so to confidently recognise them in your own surroundings. We will also cover important aspects of ethics, legalities and safety. This workshop will enable you to then go and confidently forage wild ingredients in your own surrounds.

Most importantly, bring along your wide eyed inner child and a thirst for an empowering, delicious adventure. You will never be able to un-see the restaurant quality ingredients that have been hiding right under your nose.

Note: Tasting is vegetarian and may contain dairy, nuts, eggs and gluten and will absolutely contain foraged gifts from the sea and delicious weeds.

This is an all-weather event. We will only cancel the workshop in case of heavy rain or dangerously gusty winds, via email and phone call 2 days before the date, offering a place on another tour.

Refund Policy: Due to the nature of the event, we will not issue any refunds for unused tickets sold. Please make sure you are available to attend before you finalise your booking. 

Reschedule Policy: If you need to reschedule we can offer you a Gift Voucher up to four weeks (4) before the event. This voucher can be used against any workshop to the same value, and is valid for three years. If less than four weeks’ notice is given you can pass on the ticket to someone else.

frequently asked questions

Are we going to be harvesting plants and seaweeds?
No, we will learn about plants and seaweeds. We will only collect a few leaves and flowers here and there and with those, we will discuss ID features. The main aim of the workshop is to empower you with identification skills so that when you go back home you can recognise with confidence some useful plants in your own garden/surroundings.

Are we going to scramble in the wilderness?
No, no bush bashing or rock climbing. We will walk mostly on even ground a flat rock platform and sandy beach. I suggest you bring your comfy walking shoes you don’t mind getting wet (or bare feet) and you will be fine.

Is this suitable for elderly people or less mobile people?
Unfortunately, this particular workshop is not suitable for less mobile people. Please check the other workshops as they are better suited.

Can we try the plants and seaweeds?
Yes, I will offer a mini mobile degustation as well as samples of the species we talk about for you to try. I believe taste memories are just as important as touch, smell and sight.

Can I come with my dog?
Yes, as long as they are well behaved with the other guests and do not try and gobble anyones food. Sharkies beach has off leash times, usually before 8am and weekends so your fur baby will have a fabulous adventure too. Please note, there are usually plenty of other dogs so if your dog isn’t social you’re best to keep them on a leash.

What if it looks like it’s going to rain on the day?
Plants love the rain and natures salad bar will be yummier for it. If there is a chance of rain I will let you know and we will go ahead, just bring an umbrella or your rain gear. If it is scheduled to rain hard or strong wind I will cancel the workshop and either refund your ticket or move your booking to another date.

What if I change my mind or can no longer attend?
Please make sure you can attend before finalising your booking. I understand that unexpected events happen, so in case you can no longer come, pass on your ticket to a friend. See this as when you buy a concert ticket. If you cannot go anymore, give a present to someone you know they would enjoy it.

Can I ask specific questions on the workshop?
Absolutely. I love questions and if you have any burning one just let me know in advance or on the day and I will endeavour to provide you with answers or follow up with links that would help in your quest.
